Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT)

Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT) is a physiotherapy method that helps you feel your body better and understand how you move and use your body in your daily life. It helps you notice movement habits that may contribute to tension or pain, and gradually develop freer and more natural movements.

The therapy uses simple, safe movements based on everyday activities – sitting, standing, walking and resting. Practicing these movements can improve posture and stability, promote freer breathing and greater body awareness. This helps reduce tension and pain, as well as improve overall well-being and the quality of movement in everyday activities.

Are you experiencing chronic musculoskeletal pain, tension in your body, or increased stress in your daily life? Over time, this can lead to difficulty breathing, restricted movement, discomfort, and pain. In such cases, BBAT can be a gentle and effective way to restore greater freedom of movement and a sense of well-being.

This method is suitable for people with chronic pain, rheumatoid arthritis, eating disorders, increased stress or anxiety, as well as those who want to improve their well-being and body awareness. BBAT can be used as a standalone therapy method or as an adjunct to other treatment approaches, such as standard physiotherapy or psychotherapy.

Key aspects of BBAT therapy:

  •  Goal: To promote harmonious, free and purposeful movement, improving the connection between mind and body.
  • Methods: The exercises are simple, often based on balance, breathing, and everyday movements (standing, walking, lying down), which can be done both in groups and individually.
  • Benefits: Improved posture, freedom of movement, increased body awareness, stress and anxiety reduction.
  • Uses: Often used for chronic pain, anxiety, stress, or movement disorders.
