Ultrasound Procedures and Phonophoresis therapy
Ultrasound (US) therapy is a physical therapy method that works by converting the energy of US waves into heat energy. The procedure during which medications are administered into the deeper layers of tissue using ultrasound waves is called Phonophoresis. Ultrasound waves create vibrations that increase the permeability of cell membranes, allowing medical substances (gel) to reach the affected tissue more effectively.
Thus, tissue warming activates the body's biochemical and physiological processes:
- connective tissue is strengthened and blood circulation is improved, improving microcirculation and cell metabolism,
- it promotes the reduction of inflammation, dissolves scar tissue,
- improves tissue regeneration and absorption processes,
- reduces pain by reducing receptor sensitivity,
- eases pain caused by mastitis and reduces milk retention - during breastfeeding
This therapy method is especially useful in the following cases:
- Musculoskeletal and musculoskeletal disorders: sound waves are used to treat joint pain, muscle spasms, tendonitis, bursitis, and osteoarthritis.
- Trauma recovery: after injuries such as bone fractures or sprains, ultrasound helps accelerate tissue healing and regeneration.
- Post-operative rehabilitation: after surgeries such as joint or muscle surgeries, ultrasound can help restore mobility and reduce severe pain.
- Joint injuries and diseases: ultrasound is used to reduce pain and improve mobility in people with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
- Soft tissue disorders: soft tissue disorders such as ligament or muscle sprains can also benefit from ultrasound therapy to promote tissue healing and recovery.
Duration of the procedure: 7–10 minutes. It is a non-invasive and painless procedure. Our center uses the latest generation Ultrasound device Sonoplus 492 NEW from Enraf-Nonius.
